Compliant First Aid Kits

Under the Work Health and Safety Act, every workplace must provide first aid equipment, facilities and trained first aiders, and the Safe Work Australia Code of Practice sets out how that duty is met in practice. Working through this alongside day-to-day operations isn't practical for most businesses, which is where Safe Industries Group comes in. Our fully mobile team supplies, inspects and replenishes first aid kits appropriate to your workplace, servicing clients across Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and the Mid North Coast.

The aim of a first aid kit is to preserve life, prevent illness or injury from becoming worse, relieve pain, promote recovery and protect the unconscious, so it's vital yours is kept in excellent condition. Operating since 2014, we can inspect and replenish your existing kit or determine your first aid needs from scratch, including how many trained first aiders your workplace should have.

Call us today on 1800 723 344 and we will arrange one of our teams to meet you on-site.

Workplace Regulations

We source all our first aid kits from recognised and accredited suppliers. Our emphasis is on quality and fit for purpose, followed by value for money. We will always provide the best-fitting product for your application. Our team can assess your premise or worksite and assign a low risk, high risk or remote high risk category first aid kit.

  • Low-risk workplaces include retail shops, offices, libraries or art galleries
  • High-risk workplaces include factories, motor vehicle workshops or forestry operations
  • Remote high-risk workplaces include all-night convenience stores, service stations & long-distance freight transport drivers, heavy industry & mining
  • CAMS kits, shooters or hunters kits, marine & shark bite kits

Getting the risk category right starts with a proper site assessment, taking into account the nature of the work, known hazards and worker numbers. By law, all workers must be able to access a first aid kit, kept in an accessible location and close to higher-risk areas, including in work vehicles. Our team will determine these locations for you and also provide general site safety audits.

What’s Included in the Kit?

Most first aid kits will include items to treat cuts, scratches, punctures, grazes, splinters, muscular sprains and strains, minor burns, amputations and/or major bleeding wounds, broken bones, eye injuries and shock. Depending on the risk scale of your workplace, the kit supplied to you may include different items. For example, high-risk first aid kits may also include items for serious burns, breathing difficulties, puncture wounds, exposure to pathogens or allergic reactions.

The contents of the kit should be immediately identifiable, and the items should be made from materials that will protect the contents from dust, moisture and contamination. If your first aid kit needs an audit, get in touch with Safe Industries Group today.

Everything You Need To Know

  • What should a workplace first aid kit contain in Australia?

A well-stocked workplace first aid kit should include bandages, dressings, adhesive strips, antiseptic wipes, disposable gloves, scissors, tweezers and a first aid manual. The exact contents required may vary depending on the size of your workforce, the nature of your work and the specific hazards present in your workplace environment.

  • How many first aid kits does my workplace need?

The number of first aid kits required depends on the size of your workforce, the layout of your premises and the level of risk associated with your work activities. As a general guide, there should be at least one kit per floor or work area, and kits should be easily accessible to all workers at all times without having to travel an unreasonable distance to reach them.

  • How often should workplace first aid kits be checked and restocked?

Workplace first aid kits should be inspected regularly, ideally every three months, to check for expired items, depleted supplies and damaged equipment. They should also be restocked immediately after use.

Assigning a designated person to manage first aid kit maintenance is a practical way to ensure checks happen consistently and your kits remain compliant with Australian workplace safety standards at all times.
